This painting marks the halfway point in my goal to paint 30 small acrylic paintings. Hopefully along the way, I’ll figure out my style. Things are starting to evolve in my brain and I have ideas of where I’d like to go next. I’m thinking Sheeler, Demuth, and Cezanne. Maybe I should change my name to Charles? JK.

For this painting, I was thinking about Monet’s haystacks. I wondered what it would be like to revisit a previous painting but at a different point in the year. The photo I used for this painting was taken by local photographer Ed Dinep. He braves the cold, much more than me, to capture photos of our Fredericksburg area. I loved the way his photo captured Downtown with a coating of snow after one of our recent snow storms.

My previous painting to this one, “St. George’s,” used only tints, tones, and shades of yellow and purple. I wanted to continue with this palette but expand a little to include some warm oranges. I had the most fun painting the buildings and the snowy ground.
