Today I took a bit more impressionistic approach to my subject matter. Last spring I photographed this beautiful Japanese maple tree while on a walk around our neighborhood. I’ve been going through a lot of my old photos looking for images to paint and this one stood out today. 

At one point while painting, I decided to paint over this whole background tree element. Ive noticed that I’m less reluctant to paint over an area or start again. If it’s not going quite right, that’s ok.  It’s kind of therapeutic too to take out a whole section with a palette knife.
